Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Admits to Leaving Dead Bear in Central Park
Robert F. Kennedy Jr., an independent presidential candidate, recently admitted in a social media video that he dumped a dead bear cub in Central Park in 2014. In the video, posted on his X account, Kennedy recounts the strange circumstances leading to this act, which puzzled New Yorkers a decade ago.
Kennedy explains that he found the bear after it was hit by a car while he was driving behind the vehicle. He initially planned to use the bear’s meat and skin it himself, as New York state permits keeping roadkill with a proper tag. However, he didn’t get the necessary tag or notify authorities.
Instead, Kennedy went on a falconing trip and later had dinner in New York City. Since he couldn’t return home with the bear in his car, he decided to leave it in Central Park, staging it as part of a fake bike accident, which he thought would be amusing.
The bear was discovered by a dog walker, leading to a large police response. At the time, authorities were puzzled by how the bear ended up in the park and whether foul play was involved. The New York Times, which covered the story, found the incident confusing and questioned how the bear got there.
Kennedy’s confession comes as his 2024 presidential campaign struggles, with his support dropping and recent blunders affecting his chances. His campaign has faced difficulties raising funds, and with Vice President Kamala Harris now in the race, Kennedy’s prospects have further weakened. The BBC reported on this unusual story and the political implications for Kennedy.
