Italy and Germany have strongly rejected Vladimir Putin’s ceasefire terms to end the war in Ukraine.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni called Putin’s plan “propaganda,” saying it essentially demands Ukraine to retreat from its own territory.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz labeled it a “dictatorial peace.” Putin said he would agree to a ceasefire if Ukraine withdrew from four regions that Russia partially controls and claims to have annexed.

Ukrainian President Zelensky’s aide, Andriy Yermak, stated there would be no compromise on Ukraine’s independence or territorial integrity.

The comments came ahead of a major peace summit in Switzerland, attended by over 90 countries and global institutions, but not by Russia or its ally China.

UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak accused Putin of pretending to be willing to negotiate, and EU chief Ursula von der Leyen warned that freezing the conflict with Russian troops on Ukrainian land would only lead to more wars.

Ukraine dismissed Putin’s terms as “offensive to common sense.”
