Some Democrats are asking President Joe Biden to drop his re-election plans after a bad debate with Donald Trump.

Concerns about Biden’s age are growing, and polls show Trump gaining support. This has led to speculation about who might replace Biden if he steps down. Here are some names being considered:

  1. Kamala Harris: The Vice-President is a loyal ally and defends Biden, but she has low approval ratings.
  2. Gretchen Whitmer: The Michigan Governor has a strong record and high approval, making her a potential candidate.
  3. Gavin Newsom: The California Governor supports Biden but has his own ambitions and national recognition.
  4. Pete Buttigieg: The Transportation Secretary is a good communicator and has handled several crises.
  5. Josh Shapiro: The Pennsylvania Governor is popular in a key swing state and has bipartisan appeal.
  6. JB Pritzker: The Illinois Governor, a vocal Trump critic, has pushed progressive policies.

Other possible candidates include Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear, Maryland Governor Wes Moore, and Senators Amy Klobuchar, Cory Booker, and Raphael Warnock. However, Michelle Obama, who could beat Trump according to a poll, has no interest in running.

The BBC reports that Democrats are considering these options as they worry about Biden’s chances against Trump in the upcoming election.
