Oscar Pistorius, the former Paralympic champion, is set to leave prison on parole after serving half of his 13-year sentence for murdering his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, in 2013.

Once a celebrated athlete known as “the Blade Runner,” Pistorius’s career is now over, and he faces challenges in rebuilding his life.

Despite his release, conditions will be imposed on him until 2029, including curfews, mandatory programs, and abstinence from alcohol and drugs.

Pistorius, who was convicted of murder on appeal, remains a controversial figure, with varying opinions on his culpability.

The release raises concerns about the normalcy of leniency for individuals involved in femicide or gender-based violence. Reeva Steenkamp’s close friend, Gwyn Guscott, expresses the ongoing pain and lack of peace since her friend’s murder, emphasizing the need to perceive Pistorius for his actions.
