Namibia’s President Hage Geingob, aged 82, passed away while receiving medical care in Windhoek.
Vice-President Nangolo Mbumba confirmed the news, stating Geingob was with his wife and children.
Diagnosed with cancer last month, he was undergoing treatment in the US but planned to return.
Geingob, who became president in 2015, was serving his final term. He had previously survived prostate cancer and underwent heart surgery last year.
Namibia, set for elections in November, sees Swapo party selecting Nandi-Ndaitwah as its presidential candidate. If she wins, she’ll be the country’s first female president.
