Marine Le Pen’s Far Right Poised for Power in France’s Elections

France held early elections called by President Emmanuel Macron, showing that many voters no longer want him to govern alone or at all.

Marine Le Pen’s far-right party, the National Rally (RN), won big in the first round but didn’t secure a decisive victory yet.

If RN wins the second round, 28-year-old Jordan Bardella will become the Prime Minister. However, the most likely outcome is a hung parliament, causing political gridlock.

Le Pen’s party needs to win more seats or form alliances to gain a majority.

A coalition of left, center, and conservative parties is trying to stop RN from gaining full power.
