Jeff Bridges and Other Stars Lose Homes in LA Wildfire
Hollywood stars like Jeff Bridges, Paris Hilton, and Billy Crystal have lost their homes due to the dangerous wildfires spreading across Los Angeles, reports BBC. Jeff Bridges, who won an Oscar for Crazy Heart, lost the house he inherited with his siblings in Malibu. Hilton confirmed on Instagram that her Malibu home was destroyed, calling it “heartbreaking beyond words” and thanking firefighters for their efforts.
Actor Milo Ventimiglia, best known for This Is Us, also lost his home. Ventimiglia told CBS News that watching the flames on his security cameras was painful, especially knowing all the memories tied to the house. According to BBC, other stars like Mandy Moore and James Woods described similar experiences, expressing grief but also gratitude for their safety.
A large part of Pacific Palisades, a scenic area near the Santa Monica Mountains, was reduced to ashes. BBC reports that over 1,000 buildings have been destroyed, with thousands of people forced to leave their homes, including many celebrities. James Woods, whose home was completely destroyed, shared an emotional moment on CNN, saying he was overwhelmed when a child in his family offered her piggy bank to help rebuild their house.
Paris Hilton, known for her role in reality TV and as a hotel heiress, uploaded a video showing the ruins of her home, saying, “This isn’t just about losing walls and a roof; it’s about losing memories.” She added that despite the loss, she feels lucky her family and pets are safe. Many other stars, like Jamie Lee Curtis, Eugene Levy, and Mark Hamill, had to evacuate as the fires got dangerously close. Curtis and her husband pledged $1 million to help rebuild the community.
BBC notes that even famous schools and filming locations, like the Palisades Charter High School used in the classic movie Carrie, were destroyed. Some events, including Oscar nominations and movie premieres, were postponed because of the fires. According to BBC, the scale of the fires has left LA looking like a real-life disaster movie.
Meanwhile, celebrities like Diane Warren and Steve Guttenberg tried to help by supporting firefighters and urging people to evacuate. Warren, a legendary songwriter, lost her beachfront home of nearly 30 years. Guttenberg stayed behind to help clear the way for fire trucks.
The wildfires are still spreading, and officials are urging everyone to stay alert. As BBC reports, this tragedy shows how nature can cause serious damage even in places where the rich and famous live, reminding us that fire spares no one.
