Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has revealed a plan to work closely with African nations on energy, investment, and migration issues.

This initiative, known as the “Mattei Plan,” involves a substantial initial commitment of $60 billion. Meloni’s government, which leans towards the right politically, has faced challenges in addressing irregular migration.

To tackle this, Meloni proposes investing in African economies to provide opportunities and reduce the urge to migrate. Additionally, she aims to establish Italy as a key energy hub connecting North African suppliers with Europe.

However, some African leaders, like Moussa Faki Mahamat of the African Union Commission, emphasize the importance of tangible actions over mere promises.

This plan signifies Italy’s effort to forge stronger ties with Africa, as reported by the BBC.
