Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco now has a safety net to prevent suicides, a crucial step after 87 years.
The net, installed on 95% of the 1.7-mile bridge, aims to reduce the tragic history of around 2,000 people jumping to their deaths since 1937.
The net, made of stainless steel, was approved in 2014, with work starting in 2018.
Despite initial concerns about cost and obstructed views, it’s seen success, cutting the average yearly suicides in 2023 from 30 to 14.
Survivor and advocate Kevin Hines praises the net, emphasizing its potential to offer crucial help to those in need.
