Imran Khan, the former Prime Minister of Pakistan who was removed from office, has been handed a three-year prison term following accusations of corruption that he vehemently denies.
He was convicted by a court in Islamabad for failing to disclose earnings from the sale of government presents.
The ex-cricketer, aged 70, has been given a sentence subsequent to being convicted of illicitly vending state presents during his tenure as the prime minister from 2018 to 2022, subsequent to an investigation led by the election commission.
Khan has refuted all allegations of misconduct, and his political faction, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), communicated through an official statement that they have already submitted an appeal to the highest court in the country.
Upon this verdict, the judge issued a prompt arrest warrant, and his attorney, Intazar Hussain, informed Reuters that the ex-Prime Minister was apprehended at his residence in Lahore.
The legal representatives of Mr. Khan have announced their intention to challenge the ruling.
