Former Barcelona and Brazil footballer Dani Alves has been found guilty of raping a woman in a Barcelona nightclub and has been sentenced to four and a half years in prison.

Despite denying the assault, the court ruled that the woman did not consent to the sexual encounter.

Alves can appeal the sentence, and he has been ordered to pay €150,000 to the victim.

Throughout the trial, Alves changed his testimony multiple times, initially denying knowing the accuser, then claiming they met in the toilet but nothing happened, and finally stating they had consensual sex.
