Fitbit Denies Software Update Caused Device Failures

Fitbit is saying that a recent software update didn’t cause problems with their Charge 5 fitness trackers, despite many users saying otherwise. Over 100 people on Fitbit’s forums complained that their devices stopped working properly after the update in December 2023. Some users reported very short battery life as the main issue.

Google, which owns Fitbit, stated they’re looking into the problem but don’t think it’s because of the update. They advised users to keep updating their devices and contact customer service if they have issues.

However, users on the forums are sure the update caused the problems. They’re warning others not to install it and sharing how their devices aren’t working well anymore.

One user, Dean, said his Charge 5 had no problems before the update but now the battery dies quickly. Fitbit’s forums are filled with similar stories.

Fitbit, a company from California, is known for making fitness trackers. They’ve sold millions of units worldwide since 2009 and were bought by Google in 2019. But with smartphones getting more features, the wearable tech market is facing challenges.

Some users are frustrated with Fitbit’s response, saying they’re not offering helpful solutions. One person even wants Google to take responsibility and plans to switch to another brand. They think Fitbit should let people return their devices and get an upgrade for free.
