A fire broke out at the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo) in Tamale, burning transformers, insulators, and other important equipment.

According to MyJoyOnline, firefighters acted quickly, sending fire trucks from both the metro and the hospital to stop the flames from spreading.

Speaking to MyJoyOnline, Ghana Fire Service spokesperson Baba Hudu explained that even though they arrived in time, the fire was so intense that two fire trucks were not enough.

They had to call a water company to supply extra water to help fight the fire.

Despite the destruction, NEDCo’s Corporate Communications Director, Maxwell Kotoka, assured MyJoyOnline that power supply in the area would not be affected.

He clarified that the fire mainly damaged a warehouse that stores equipment and materials, not the actual power distribution system.

MyJoyOnline also reported that while the warehouse itself no longer has electricity, the company is working to restore power there.

Meanwhile, engineers are assessing the full damage and planning repairs. NEDCo is making sure that the fire does not disrupt electricity for homes and businesses.
