David Lynch, the famous filmmaker behind “Mulholland Drive” and “Twin Peaks,” has passed away at the age of 78. His family shared the sad news on his Facebook page, saying his loss leaves a “big hole” in the world.

They quoted Lynch’s own words, urging people to “Keep your eye on the donut and not on the hole,” reminding everyone to focus on the positive.

Lynch was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Director three times for his films “Blue Velvet,” “The Elephant Man,” and “Mulholland Drive.”

His most recent project was the 2017 TV series “Twin Peaks: The Return,” which continued the beloved show from the 1990s.

In August of last year, Lynch revealed he had been battling emphysema due to many years of smoking but said he was still in “excellent shape” and planned to never retire.

His death marks the end of a unique and influential career in cinema and television. (BBC)
