People think the old video was the best part of ESPN advertising.
Robert Irwin got people talking when he remembered his dad, Steve Irwin. The 19-year-old, who loves nature, shared an old video of his legendary father on Instagram. Soon after, fans started asking him to redo the video. Robert didn’t pick just any video; he went deep into the archives and found a commercial his dad did for ESPN’s SportsCenter.
In the video, Steve Irwin talks to the TV host, John Anderson. He’s trying to persuade him to show “The Crocodile Hunter” on ESPN. Suddenly, the elevator opens, and there’s the Florida Gators mascot inside. Steve, like he would with animals, jumps at the mascot. It startles Anderson, who quickly leaves, looking embarrassed.
After Robert Irwin posted the old video, people on social media suggested he should act out the ad again. They even said it was one of the greatest commercials ever made. One person said, “It would be amazing if you did it again!” Another person said, “It was fantastic back then, and it’s still fantastic now.
“It’s the best of ESPN advertising,” a third person said with excitement.
“This proves how much people in general really liked yourdadd in the big media!” someone else shared. “He’s truly the only person who deserves an ESPN ad without being a pro athlete.”
Clearly, Robert loves the ad just as much as everyone else does. He admitted in the caption, “My dad’s @espn ad will always make me laugh 😂👌.” So, maybe, if we’re lucky, one of these days Robert will do it and show his own version of the popular video.
For now, fans will have to keep enjoying any other nice stuff the Australian zookeeper shares.
