Bolt Takes Action to End Prank-Driven Taxi Conflicts Between Nigeria and South Africa

Bolt has put restrictions on ride requests between Nigeria and South Africa after a prank on social media led to widespread issues for drivers. In this prank, people were booking taxi rides in the other country and then canceling them, causing drivers to waste fuel and time chasing nonexistent passengers.

Munyaradzi Chinyama, a Bolt driver in Cape Town, reported that he received several fake ride requests and ended up using a lot of fuel without making any money. Bolt has now blocked users involved in this prank to protect drivers.

Drivers, like Chinyama, have been receiving offensive messages, and the prank has caused frustration on both sides. Many drivers have been unfairly affected, with some even facing financial losses due to high fuel prices and empty trips.

Social media users have shown support for the drivers, criticizing the prank and highlighting the unfairness of the situation. Bolt says it will continue to allow ride requests between other countries but has taken steps to prevent further issues between Nigeria and South Africa.
