Bolivian police have arrested the leader of a failed coup attempt, shortly after soldiers stormed the presidential palace in La Paz.

General Juan José Zúñiga, who led the rebel military forces, aimed to “restructure democracy” but was swiftly detained.

President Luis Arce denounced the coup, urging citizens to defend democracy, which prompted pro-government demonstrations.

The incident, while alarming, appears isolated, and the government remains firm with widespread support against military intervention in politics.
