North Korean hackers have infiltrated South Korean chip equipment makers, as reported by South Korea’s spy agency.

The National Intelligence Service (NIS) suggests Pyongyang aims to produce its own semiconductors for weapons programs due to sanctions.

This follows President Yoon Suk Yeol’s warning of potential cyber attacks ahead of elections.

While the NIS didn’t name affected firms or confirm valuable data was obtained, it urged the chip industry to bolster cyber defenses.

Despite North Korea denying involvement in cybercrimes, Seoul alleges it’s responsible for significant thefts to fund its regime and nuclear program, highlighting the country’s growing cyber sophistication amid international sanctions.
