HSBC said sorry after many UK customers couldn’t use their mobile and online banking. People complained on social media, saying they couldn’t pay bills or shop on Black Friday.

One person even couldn’t pay rent. HSBC blamed an “internal system issue” and apologized for the trouble.

HSBC reported that only its UK customers are facing issues, not affecting First Direct or M&S Bank customers. The bank hasn’t given a timeline for fixing the digital services.

A customer, Marius Acsinte, shared that he couldn’t access his account to pay rent, discovering the problem online instead of through a notification from the bank.

Judi Sutherland, living in a rural area, emphasized the impact, saying it forces some to travel long distances for banking.

People are frustrated about not being able to make online card payments, but HSBC suggests using a one-time passcode via SMS for affected customers.

The exact number of people affected by HSBC’s issues is unclear because users need to check their online banking app to know if it’s working.

With around 14.8 million customers in the UK, HSBC estimates that nine out of 10 transactions are done digitally. Some users complained on social media about problems with Black Friday purchases and bill payments. HSBC previously announced branch closures, citing increased online banking use.

Frustrated customers emphasized the lack of communication and updates on the service status page. Experts warn that frequent IT outages could lead customers to switch to other providers.(Source: BBC)
