In a startling turn of events, centrist senator Joel Guerriau from western France has been arrested on suspicion of drugging lower house MP Sandrine Josso with the intent of assaulting her.

The alleged incident occurred at Guerriau’s Paris home, prompting Josso to file a criminal complaint. The substance in question was revealed to be ecstasy.

Despite a decade-long friendship, Josso described a sense of betrayal and confusion. Both parties underwent joint questioning, with Guerriau vehemently denying any wrongdoing. As investigations unfold, the political repercussions within the Horizons party, led by former Prime Minister Edouard Philippe, are gaining attention.

Philippe emphasized that if doubts persist, Guerriau may be compelled to resign, potentially impacting the political landscape.
