Living in South Palm Desert, California, Ruthie didn’t let losing sight in one eye, osteoporosis, or joint problems stop her from staying in shape.

Add conditions like CPPD (a painful joint disease) and body dysmorphia (a mental health challenge that affects self-image), and staying fit was an uphill battle. Yet, Ruthie says that movement is key to maintaining her mood and confidence.

Discovering Her Passion for Cycling

Ruthie switched to indoor cycling, or spinning, after running began to hurt her knees. At CycleBar, she fell in love with spinning classes in 2011. The studio not only became her workout haven but also her “retirement gig.” Ruthie now works there, helping new riders and spreading positivity. Parade emphasized how finding a supportive fitness community made a big difference in her journey.

Her Simple, Effective Workout Routine

Ruthie’s workouts are easy to follow and flexible, making them ideal for anyone. She begins every morning with stretches before getting out of bed, followed by gentle squats and calf raises while her coffee brews. She spins three times a week for 45 minutes, lifts light weights almost daily, and incorporates barre, yoga, and Pilates to stay flexible. She also takes daily walks, sometimes for as long as 90 minutes, depending on her energy levels.
