If you love sweets, switching from candy to fruit could really help your heart, according to Parade. Scientific research shows that eating too much sugar, especially from processed foods, can harm your heart and increase the risk of heart disease.

Instead, reaching for fruit when you crave something sweet can make a huge difference for your health, Parade explains.

Dr. Joel Kahn, a heart doctor and author of The Whole Heart Solution, told Parade that eating fruit daily is great for your heart, brain, and even sexual health.

He calls fruit “nature’s candy” because it’s a sweet and healthy choice. According to Parade, many fruits like apples, blueberries, grapes, and pomegranates are packed with nutrients that protect your heart, help lower blood pressure, and raise good cholesterol levels.

Parade also shared that Dr. Kahn’s top heart-healthy fruit is the apple. He says apples are high in fiber, which is good for your gut and heart.

Apples are also rich in vitamin C and quercetin, both of which are important for keeping your arteries healthy. Dr. Kahn likes to eat an apple before a meal, which helps with both heart health and weight management.

However, Dr. Chauncey Crandall, another cardiologist, told Parade that his favorite fruit for heart health is the mango.

Mangos are loaded with magnesium and potassium, which help lower blood pressure.

Parade emphasizes that while different doctors may have their own favorite fruits, the key is to eat the ones you enjoy most so you’ll be more likely to make them a regular part of your diet.

This way, you’ll be giving your heart, and your whole body, the benefits it needs.
