Divers have found the sixth body from the luxury yacht that sank off Sicily. The body is believed to be 18-year-old Hannah Lynch, according to Italian media reports. This discovery was made on the fifth day of the search and recovery operation.
Hannah’s body is the last of those missing after the yacht, named Bayesian, sank earlier this week during a rare storm near Porticello, east of Palermo. So far, the bodies of her father, tech entrepreneur Mike Lynch, and five others have been recovered.
Among the 22 people on board, 15 survived, including Hannah’s mother and a one-year-old child. The other victims included notable figures such as Morgan Stanley’s Jonathan Bloomer and lawyer Chris Morvillo.
The wreck of the Bayesian lies on the seabed about 50 meters (164 feet) deep. The search and recovery mission is described as “complex,” with divers limited to short, 12-minute underwater shifts.
The Italian Coastguard has mentioned that raising the yacht from the seabed is not currently planned but might be considered later. The ship remains largely intact, according to divers.
The situation has been closely followed, and the latest update highlights the challenges faced by the rescuers in this ongoing operation.
