Elon Musk says Tesla will start making and using humanoid robots next year.
In a post on social media, Musk mentioned that these robots, named Optimus, will first be used within Tesla. The company plans to begin selling them to other businesses in 2026.
Musk had earlier hoped the robots would be used in Tesla factories by the end of this year. Other companies like Honda and Boston Dynamics are also working on their own humanoid robots.
Tesla’s robots will be used for tasks that are dangerous, repetitive, or boring. Musk aims for them to cost under $20,000 each.
Tesla shares rose more than 5% in New York after this announcement. Musk is known for setting ambitious goals, and although he hasn’t always met his deadlines, he remains optimistic about future developments.
Musk also mentioned that the robotaxi, a self-driving car, would be revealed on August 8th but later hinted at a possible delay to October.
The BBC has covered this ongoing story and the updates from Tesla and Musk.
