Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is asking again for more long-range weapons and air defenses after a missile attack killed seven people, including two children, in Vilniansk, near Zaporizhzhia.

The attack also injured 31 others. In total, at least 11 civilians died and 37 were wounded in missile strikes across Ukraine on Saturday, according to Reuters.

Zelensky posted on Telegram, highlighting the daily suffering from Russian strikes and emphasizing the need for more advanced weaponry to counter these attacks. He shared photos of the damage in Vilniansk, showing a large crater and several bodies.

Ukraine’s Prosecutor General Andriy Kostin said two missiles hit Vilniansk, damaging infrastructure, a shop, and residential buildings. The Russian defense ministry hasn’t commented but shared footage of a missile strike on a railway near Vilniansk.

Kostin also reported that four people were killed and seven wounded in artillery strikes in the Donetsk region. Western allies have given Ukraine long-range weapons and air defense systems, but a delay in US military aid earlier in 2024 caused shortages. Zelensky thanked allies but stressed the need for faster decisions to save lives.

For a unique perspective: This situation shows the urgency of international support in conflicts, as delays can have dire consequences for civilians.
