A big blast at a quarry in Anto Aboso, Western Region, caused five deaths, including one Chinese person. It also hurt nearby areas in Shama District. Lots of people are now in shock and facing major losses.
Around 11 p.m. on Saturday, September 9, there was a big explosion at the Omni Quarry site, as stated by people who saw it happen.
The exact reason for the explosion is still unknown, but some workers who were at the site lost their lives, and their bodies were found scattered around. Among them are Chinese workers, but their identities are hard to confirm due to the severe nature of the incident. Three Ghanaians have been confirmed dead.
The police, along with the National Fire Service and the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), have arrived at the scene.
It seems that the workers stored some explosives they use for their job too close to where they sleep. Some believe this is what caused the explosion, catching everyone off guard and causing harm.
A quick check suggests that the owner of the quarry was one of the casualties.
Officials point out that the company had permission to mine but not to store explosives.
Many still remember the Apeatse explosion that happened on January 20, 2022. It destroyed 500 homes between Bogoso and Bawdie in the Western Region. Videos on social media showed National Fire Service personnel removing what appeared to be human remains from the debris.
