Lulu Jemimah, who is 32 years old, decided to marry herself because she felt pressure from her parents to get married. She is a student at Oxford University. She organized the wedding ceremony in Kampala, Uganda, at the Quepasa Pub on August 27, 2018. The whole event cost about Ksh250, which she used to pay for a taxi.

Lulu asked her friends to come to her event and borrowed a special outfit.
One of her friends, who designs websites, created the invitations and printed them. Another friend paid for the outfit that Lulu wore. Lulu’s brother made her cake for the event.
After that, she talked to her guests and told them why there was no groom. Just like people thought, her parents didn’t come to the important day. But later, she talked to her mother and told her why she did what she did.
“My dad still says he doesn’t have the right words.”
Lulu is working towards a Master’s degree in Creative Writing. She emphasized her dedication to her own aspirations and pointed out times when her parents wished for her to wed.

“I have a big dream in life, and I’m really focused on reaching my goals of becoming an academic.
‘However, my family’s main concern was asking me about my marriage plans, which is a significant matter in Uganda. After that, they inquired about when I might have kids and start a family.”
When I was 16, my dad created a wedding speech for me. Every year on my birthday, my mom prayed for me, and lately, she’s been asking for a nice husband for me too,” she shared.
Lulu got a degree in Media (Film) from Macquarie University in Australia. She began studying for her master’s degree in August 2017.
Before, she worked as a reporter who wasn’t tied to any one company and also as someone who gave advice about communications for the International Organisation for Migration.
