Ugandan opposition leader Bobi Wine has been injured in his leg during a confrontation with a police officer, according to his aide. The incident occurred while he was on his way to meet his lawyers, and Bobi Wine’s team initially believed he had been shot. He was taken to Nsambya Hospital in Kampala for treatment, as reported by the BBC.

Footage shared online shows Bobi Wine being helped with a bleeding injury on his left shin. His personal assistant, Najja Ssenyonjo, told the BBC that they heard gunfire during the scuffle, but it’s up to the doctors to confirm whether it was a bullet wound.

However, police say that Bobi Wine stumbled while getting into his car after attending an event in Bulindo. They claim that the opposition leader attempted to lead a procession, which they advised against, and this led to the confrontation. The police added that an investigation would be conducted to clarify what happened.

Bobi Wine, a popular figure among young Ugandans, has faced numerous arrests and attacks due to his opposition to President Yoweri Museveni, who has been in power for nearly 40 years.

BBC reports that this incident is just the latest in a long history of confrontations between Uganda’s security forces and political opponents of the president.
