Maleesa Mooney and Nichole ‘Nikki’ Coats lived very close to each other, less than three miles apart.
Two models from Los Angeles were discovered dead in their own homes, and it’s believed that something bad may have happened.
On Tuesday, September 12, the police in Los Angeles found Maleesa Mooney, a 31-year-old model and real estate agent, dead in her apartment on South Figueroa Street. She’s the sister of a famous pop star from Guyana named Jourdin Pauline. Her family got worried when she didn’t respond to messages or calls for a whole week, so they asked the police to check on her. Her cousin Bailey Babb told KTLA, “We couldn’t get our messages through, and we knew something wasn’t right because we’re all very close to Maleesa.” We don’t know the details of what happened to her yet.
In that same week, another model named Nichole “Nikki” Coats, who was 32 years old, was discovered dead by her family in her apartment in downtown LA. Her place was not far at all from where Mooney lived—just less than three miles away.
Nikki Coats’ dad and aunt became worried when they didn’t hear from her all weekend. The last time she spoke to her friends, she mentioned she was going on a date on Friday, September 8th.
According to what was said on KTLA, Nikki Coats’ mother, Sharon, said that the scene where her daughter was found was really shocking, and there was a lot of blood on her bed. She also said she believes it was a murder.
Nikki’s cousin, Sheniya Mason, mentioned, “We just want to understand what happened… It just doesn’t feel okay. Could there be a connection between these two ladies? Could there be? They were both very close by. We need to be sure that this isn’t something else because it just didn’t feel right.
The LAPD’s Tony Im told NBC News that they are looking into Mooney’s passing as a murder. However, they are waiting for a report from the medical examiner about Coats’ passing to decide if it should be investigated as well.
