ABC News has announced that it will host the first debate between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris on September 10.

The network shared this news on X (formerly known as Twitter) after Trump mentioned he was willing to debate Harris several times before the November election.

Trump, the Republican candidate, suggested holding three debates, with the other two hosted by Fox News and NBC. Kamala Harris, who recently became the Democratic nominee after Joe Biden dropped out of the race, confirmed that she would attend the ABC debate during an event in Michigan.

The debate on September 10 will be moderated by David Muir from ABC’s World News Tonight and Linsey Davis from ABC News Live Prime.

Harris expressed her eagerness to debate Trump, saying she’s ready for the showdown. Trump also indicated that he wants two more debates—one on September 4 on Fox News and another on September 25 on NBC.

The ABC debate ends the back-and-forth discussions between the Trump and Harris campaigns after Biden’s withdrawal from the race. Trump previously criticized Harris, calling her “barely competent,” while Harris has recently gained momentum in the polls.

Trump held a news conference at Mar-a-Lago, where he praised his running mate JD Vance and criticized Harris’ handling of issues like immigration and the economy. He also reiterated his views on how U.S. presidents should influence monetary policy.

As reported by the BBC, the election race remains close, with Harris gaining ground in recent days. Both campaigns are gearing up for what is expected to be a highly watched and pivotal debate on September 10.
