US journalist Evan Gershkovich has been held in a Moscow jail for nearly 15 months, now facing trial in Yekaterinburg on charges of espionage for allegedly gathering classified information about a Russian tank manufacturer.
The Wall Street Journal and US officials deny the accusations, calling the trial a closed-door process lacking due process.
Gershkovich’s case, alongside others like Paul Whelan and Alsu Kurmasheva, reflects ongoing tensions between the US and Russia, often involving prisoner exchanges hinted at by President Putin.
The outcome remains uncertain, leaving Gershkovich’s fate unclear amid international scrutiny.
