A train derailment in Pakistan on Sunday resulted in the loss of at least 30 lives and left 67 individuals wounded, as stated by Pakistan Railways. The incident occurred near Nawabshah in the southern Sindh province, involving the Hazara Express which was en route from Karachi to Havelian. Babar Raza, a spokesperson for the company, reported ongoing efforts for rescue and relief. He mentioned that individuals are being rescued from the wreckage and that two relief trains have been dispatched to the location.
The process is currently underway, and injured passengers will be taken to nearby medical facilities, as stated by Radio Pakistan.
The Pakistani Minister of Railways, Khawaja Saad Rafique, mentioned that the reason behind the train derailment will be established “following a comprehensive inquiry.”
Addressing journalists in Lahore, the minister stated that “appropriate authorities have been instructed to explore all potential avenues.”
The history of Pakistan’s railway system reveals a concerning safety track record, as a series of fatal incidents in recent times starkly underscore the outdated infrastructure and safety norms in the nation.
