Over 100 people lost their lives and 150 were hurt in a fire at a wedding in northern Iraq.

Many people were at a party in Al-Hamdaniya, in northern Iraq. A fire started and caused a lot of damage. They’re not sure why it happened, but some say it began when fireworks were used.

The building’s materials made the fire worse. Parts of the ceiling fell down. Firefighters worked hard to put out the fire. Some people were hurt, and sadly, some didn’t make it out. The bride and groom also lost their lives. It was a very scary situation, and many had trouble escaping. They couldn’t see well and had trouble breathing.

The deputy governor of Nineveh, Hassan al-Allaq, said 113 people are confirmed dead, while state news agency INA says at least 100 have died, and 150 are hurt. The injured are being taken to hospitals in the Nineveh region. The governor mentioned that the numbers might go up.

In the main hospital in Hamdaniya, many people came to give blood to help those who were hurt. Iraq’s prime minister also said on a platform called X (previously known as Twitter) that he told officials to do everything they can to help the people affected by this sad event.
