A teenager in Turkey has been arrested after filming himself stabbing five people at an outdoor café in Eskisehir, as reported by BBC. The 18-year-old, named Arda K, live-streamed the attack on social media using a camera attached to his chest. The incident occurred on Monday while people were relaxing at a café in a park after praying at a nearby mosque.
All five victims were taken to the hospital, with two in critical condition, according to Turkish state media. The teenager was found carrying two knives and a small axe, and was wearing a vest with a neo-Nazi symbol, along with a helmet, a skull-printed balaclava, and camouflage trousers.
The victims were elderly, aged 87, 71, 57, 64, and 64, though they have only been identified by initials. Turkish authorities have restricted the release of more details to avoid influencing the legal process. The Eskisehir governor’s office is overseeing the investigation, and it appears the suspect had no previous criminal record. Authorities suspect he might have been influenced by video games, as noted by several Turkish news sources.
Videos posted by Turkey’s interior minister show the suspect being detained and later taken to a police vehicle. The minister expressed hopes for the victims’ speedy recovery.
