Legendary musician Stevie Wonder, famous for hits like “Superstition” and “Isn’t She Lovely,” has officially become a citizen of Ghana.

On his 74th birthday, Ghana’s president granted him citizenship, a special moment celebrated with a birthday cake adorned with the Ghanaian flag.

Despite being born and raised in Michigan, USA, Wonder has always felt a deep connection to Ghana, even considering moving there in the past to escape racial injustice.

He’s not alone in this connection; other African-American figures like W.E.B. Du Bois and Martin Luther King Jr. have also been drawn to Ghana for its pan-African ideals.

Ghana itself has been actively welcoming Africans from the diaspora, offering citizenship to those who wish to return to their roots.

Wonder’s new citizenship is seen as a significant step in this effort, and he’s already planning to support initiatives for Ghanaian youth.

It’s a heartwarming story of homecoming and embracing heritage, with Stevie Wonder now proudly calling Ghana his new home.
