South Korean Students Sue Government Over 90-Second Exam Error
A group of South Korean students is taking legal action against the government after their college entrance exam ended 90 seconds earlier than planned.
They are seeking compensation of 20 million won each for the inconvenience. The mistake affected the entire exam, a rigorous eight-hour test called Suneung, which plays a crucial role in determining university placements and future opportunities.
The students claim that the error disrupted their focus, and despite attempts to rectify it during the lunch break, they were unable to make changes to their answers.
This is not the first time such a lawsuit has been filed; a similar case in April resulted in compensation for students affected by an early bell.
The authorities acknowledge a supervisor’s misreading of the time, but students argue that an apology is still pending.
The incident highlights the intense pressure and high stakes associated with the Suneung exam, where even a few minutes can impact students’ futures. (Source: BBC)
