Sean “Diddy” Combs has been denied bail for the third time in his sex trafficking and racketeering case, according to BBC. A judge in New York decided that releasing him could risk witness tampering and public safety.
Diddy is accused of running a “criminal enterprise” that involved forced labor, kidnapping, and sex trafficking, but he has pleaded not guilty and denied all allegations.
The judge explained that there was clear evidence Diddy might influence witnesses if released. BBC reports that prosecutors claim he misused jail communication systems, even encouraging social media posts to sway public opinion. They also accuse him of contacting witnesses, possibly to intimidate them or manipulate their testimony.
Diddy’s lawyers argue he needs freedom to prepare for his May 2025 trial, offering a $50 million bail package with house arrest and strict conditions, but the court refused, citing mistrust. BBC notes that even while in custody, Diddy allegedly used a text-messaging app to communicate with people not authorized on his contact list.
The accusations against Diddy include over 20 civil lawsuits, with claims he coerced, abused, and threatened people, including underage individuals. BBC highlights that some cases involve blackmail using video recordings of encounters and physical assaults.
