Kim Jong Un, the leader of North Korea, recently supervised artillery drills in the western region, which involved the use of new and powerful rocket launchers, according to the state media KCNA.

This came just after South Korea and Japan reported that North Korea had launched several short-range ballistic missiles into the sea, marking its first such missile test in about two months.

During the drills, Kim oversaw the testing of 600-millimeter multiple rocket launchers to evaluate their effectiveness in real combat situations and to boost the morale and readiness of the operators.

The exercises also included simulations of air explosions above targets using the super-large rocket launchers.

KCNA reported that the artillery units demonstrated high mobility, accuracy, and strong striking power, earning praise from Kim Jong Un.

He emphasized the importance of modernizing and expanding the artillery forces, particularly highlighting the strategic role of the 600 mm rocket launchers in war preparations.

Kim stressed the need for North Korea’s offensive capabilities to be fully prepared to deter and counter any potential threats, with a focus on disrupting the enemy’s military structures and potentially even targeting their capital.

This move by North Korea signifies a shift in its approach towards South Korea, with Pyongyang terminating a military agreement and branding the South as a hostile enemy state.

When asked about the threat posed by North Korea’s rocket launchers, South Korea’s defense minister, Shin Won-sik, warned that if North Korea were to launch a large number of conventional missiles at the South, it would be considered an act of war, triggering a strong retaliatory response.
