People in Nigeria are mourning the death of a young woman named Salome Adaidu, who was allegedly killed and beheaded by a man believed to be her boyfriend in Nasarawa State. According to the BBC, police arrested the suspect, Timileyin Ajayi, a gospel singer, after he was caught carrying a bag with a human head near a church.
Witnesses grew suspicious when they noticed the contents of the bag, and police quickly took action to prevent an angry mob from attacking the suspect. Later, other parts of Ms. Adaidu’s dismembered body were reportedly found at the suspect’s home. However, Ajayi has not made any comments about the allegations.
BBC reports that the victim, Salome Adaidu, was a 24-year-old National Youth Service Corps member who was stationed in Abuja. Her death has caused widespread shock and outrage, with many calling for justice. Her family is pleading with the government to ensure a proper investigation and punishment for those responsible. The police confirmed that they are still investigating the case.
One of Salome’s close friends, Abby Simon, told BBC Pidgin that the tragic incident has devastated the family, especially her mother, who fainted upon hearing the news. The mother had already lost her husband seven months earlier, making this an even more painful blow. Abby also mentioned that Salome was not in a relationship with the suspect, saying, “Even if she had been his girlfriend, no one deserves to die in such a cruel way.”
Salome’s sister, Patience, expressed frustration with the way the police are handling the situation, telling a local news outlet that the family has not received updates from law enforcement. She appealed to Nigerians for help, saying, “We demand justice for my sister.”
Many Nigerians on social media have been sharing their grief and calling for justice. One user, Avni James, posted, “Rest in peace, Salome. Your killer will never find peace.” Another person, Amara Josephine, wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “The terrible image of that poor young lady breaks my heart. I pray for her family.”
This heartbreaking story has sparked conversations across Nigeria about the need for justice, and many are hoping that the investigation will bring answers.
BBC has been closely following the case, and updates are expected as police continue their work.
