Nigeria secured a spot in the last 16 of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations with a 1-0 win against Guinea-Bissau.

The only goal came from Opa Sangante’s own goal after a cross from Moses Simon. Despite some disallowed goals, Nigeria dominated, and Guinea-Bissau played well.

Notably, referee Bouchra Karboubi made history as the second woman to officiate an AFCON finals game.

Although Ivory Coast’s loss meant Nigeria would advance with just a point, coach Jose Peseiro aims for improved attacking precision in the upcoming stages.

A unique perspective is that Nigeria needs to step up its attack for a deeper run in the tournament.
