Namibian President Hage Geingob is heading to the United States for cancer treatment after a recent medical check-up revealed the presence of cancer cells.

The 82-year-old leader, who previously survived prostate cancer in 2014, has accepted an offer for innovative therapy in Los Angeles, California.

Vice President Nangolo Mumba will temporarily assume presidential duties until Geingob’s expected return on February 2.

The upcoming medical treatment raises concerns about the leader’s health, with implications for Namibia as it approaches elections at the end of 2024.
