Michelle Obama Clears the Air About Divorce Rumors in Honest Interview – Credit: Parade
Rumors have been flying around for weeks that Michelle Obama and Barack Obama might be heading for a divorce.
The gossip started after Michelle was noticeably missing from several big events, including Donald Trump’s inauguration. But as Parade reports, Michelle has finally responded—and she made it clear: she’s not divorcing Barack.
Speaking on the April 9 episode of the “Work in Progress” podcast with Sophia Bush, Michelle Obama said people often misjudge women for making personal decisions.
According to Parade, Michelle said society couldn’t believe that she might just be making choices for herself—not because something was wrong in her marriage.
“People assumed I was getting a divorce just because I made a few personal decisions,” Michelle explained. “But why can’t it just be a woman choosing what’s best for herself?”
Michelle told Parade that women are often expected to put others first, and when they finally choose themselves, people think something must be wrong. She shared how frustrating it is that society quickly assumes the worst about powerful women simply doing what feels right for them.
Later in the interview, as Parade covered, Michelle opened up about her future plans. She said she’s in a phase of deep reflection, asking herself big questions like:
“What am I waiting for? Who do I want to be for the next 20 years?”
Michelle added that she’s focused on self-growth and making the most out of life—not just following what people expect from her.
As first highlighted by Parade, this honest interview gave fans a clear message: Michelle and Barack Obama are not splitting up.
Instead, Michelle is just carving out space for her voice and purpose as a woman, a leader, and a former First Lady.
