The US House of Representatives voted to hold Attorney General Merrick Garland in contempt of Congress because he refused to share interview tapes related to President Biden’s handling of classified documents.
This vote, which saw mostly Republican support, accuses Garland of not cooperating with their investigation.
Garland argued that releasing the tapes would harm future investigations and accused Republicans of using their power for political gain.
This makes Garland the third attorney general ever to face such a charge. However, it’s unlikely he will be prosecuted since the justice department is unlikely to charge its own leader.
Similar situations happened before with previous attorneys general who also weren’t prosecuted.
