Twelve Malawians were sent back from Israel for leaving the farms where they were working to find better-paying jobs elsewhere.

They were among more than 40 foreign workers arrested while working at a bakery in Tel Aviv.

These workers had a labor agreement between Israel and Malawi, but they were dissatisfied with working conditions on farms and sought employment in a bakery.

Israel’s ambassador to Malawi stated that violating visa terms leads to deportation. Some workers complained of being paid below Israel’s minimum wage.

Instead of leaving their jobs, they were advised to file complaints.

Last year, Israel sought more agricultural workers due to a shortage caused by conflicts, leading to agreements with countries like Malawi and Kenya to send workers.
