The Las Vegas police caught a man they suspect of killing famous rapper Tupac Shakur almost thirty years ago in the city, according to the Associated Press, as told by unnamed sources.
Duane “Keffe D” Davis was taken into custody early on Friday, but the specific charges were not immediately clear, according to the AP report. They mentioned that an official accusation was expected later in the day.
Reuters couldn’t confirm the report or get in touch with Davis or his legal representatives.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department didn’t respond right away to requests for comments.
Shakur was hurt in a shooting from a moving car on September 7, 1996, and passed away in a hospital six days later, at 25 years old.
Davis has openly admitted in interviews and in his 2019 memoir, “Compton Street Legend,” that he was present in the car from which the shots were fired during the incident, according to the AP.
Shakur was a highly acclaimed rapper, activist, and actor, with over 75 million records sold worldwide. Some of his best-known songs include “California Love” and “Keep Your Head Up.”
In July, police mentioned they had conducted a search at a house near Las Vegas regarding Shakur’s case.
