The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have reported the deaths of three Palestinians in the Jenin Camp within the occupied West Bank. The IDF claimed to have thwarted a “terrorist cell” operating in the camp, resulting in the demise of three individuals associated with the group.
In their official account, the IDF outlined that Naif Abu Tsuik, the alleged leader of the cell, along with two other members, were fatally wounded during the operation. Additionally, an M-16 rifle was discovered in the vehicle used by the group.
The Palestinian Ministry of Health has yet to release a statement concerning these fatalities. Witnesses on the scene have indicated that Israeli soldiers took possession of the vehicle containing the bodies.
Hamas spokesperson, Hazem Qassem, denounced the incident, labeling it a “fresh atrocity” committed by the “Zionist adversary.” He emphasized that there will be repercussions for the occupation’s actions and expressed the determination of the Palestinian people to persist in their resistance.
Over the weekend, the Palestinian Ministry of Health reported that an Israeli settler shot and killed a Palestinian man in the village of Burqa near Ramallah, situated in the occupied West Bank. This incident led to criticism from the United States, and notably, two Israeli settlers were apprehended. It is unusual for Israeli settlers to face arrest for their assaults on Palestinians in this region.
Additionally, on Saturday night, a Palestinian gunman shot and killed an Israeli patrolman in Tel Aviv. The assailant was subsequently neutralized by Israeli authorities.
Jenin has been a longstanding source of tension, with the latest episode being a significant military operation carried out by Israeli forces last month. This operation marked the largest of its kind in Jenin in many years. The resulting unrest resulted in the deaths of at least 12 Palestinians and widespread damage to the city’s refugee camp.
