Dr. Tingting Tan, a cancer specialist at City of Hope in California, says that focusing on vegetables, fruits, whole grains, seeds, and nuts is key to preventing cancer. At the same time, it’s important to avoid processed foods, red meat, and alcohol.

Parade explains that Dr. Tan follows a diet similar to the Mediterranean diet, which includes fish and olive oil, both good for the heart and brain. This diet is rich in antioxidants, which help reduce inflammation that can lead to cancer.

Dr. Tan shares her own afternoon snack habit to stay healthy. Instead of grabbing unhealthy snacks like chips, she opts for a mix of nuts, fruits, and Greek yogurt.
