Jamaica Prepares for Powerful Hurricane Beryl

Jamaica is getting ready for Hurricane Beryl, a dangerous category four storm with 140mph winds, expected to hit the island soon.

The US National Hurricane Center (NHC) warns of deadly winds and storm surges. So far, the hurricane has killed seven people in the Caribbean.

Jamaica has issued a hurricane warning and imposed a curfew, urging residents in risky areas to evacuate. Prime Minister Andrew Holness emphasized the seriousness of the situation.

The storm has already caused significant damage in Grenada, St Vincent and the Grenadines, and Venezuela.

People in Jamaica have been stocking up on supplies, and the country has prepared 900 shelters for evacuees.

The NHC predicts heavy rain, flooding, and mudslides in Jamaica. Hurricane Beryl is the earliest category five storm ever recorded in the Atlantic and is expected to reach Mexico and Texas soon.

The North Atlantic is anticipated to see an above-average number of major hurricanes this year, according to the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
