People in Kenya are protesting because many women are being killed. They’re mad and want it to stop. The protests are happening in big cities like Nairobi. Some women have been holding signs with the names of those who were killed.

A survey found that a lot of Kenyan women have been hurt by violence before. One protester, Winnie Chelagat, said she’s angry and wants something done about it.

Another protester, Michael Onyango, said men and boys need to be responsible for their actions. They should be taught not to hurt women.

Recently, there have been some really awful murders of women. One woman, Rita Waeni, was found dead and cut up in a bag at an apartment. This kind of killing is called femicide, and it’s happening too often in Kenya.

According to Amnesty International, over 500 femicides happened in Kenya between 2016 and 2023. Most of the time, the women were killed by people they knew.

The protesters want the government to do something about it. They say femicide should be treated as a serious crime, separate from regular murder. They’re also asking for justice for all the women who were hurt.

In Nairobi, people at the protests are saying, “We are humans, not animals.” They’re holding signs that say things like “only weak men kill women” and “don’t blame the victim.”

Some people on social media are blaming the women who were killed. They’re asking why they were out late or what they were wearing. But that’s not fair. No one deserves to be hurt or killed because of their gender.

Even though Kenya has laws against hurting women, not many people get punished for it. And when they do, it takes a long time for them to go to court.
