Here’s a fun one: Most of us have at least one cup of coffee every day, whether it’s hot or iced, and it’s always exciting to try something new to keep it interesting.
Recently, people have been experimenting with different coffee drinks, from Brazilian-style coffee to adding fudge pops or even vanilla extract. But there’s a new twist—Japanese coffee jelly—that has been making waves on social media and piqued our curiosity.
According to Parade, Japanese coffee jelly is a popular dessert in Japan made by mixing coffee with gelatin to create coffee-flavored cubes.
Once set, these jiggly cubes are served in a glass or bowl, often topped with whipped cream, sweetened condensed milk, or even ice cream. It’s a fun and customizable treat, with a strong coffee taste balanced by the sweetness of the toppings.
The cool part? It’s super easy to make at home. In a TikTok video by @that40yearguy, he explains how to whip it up: Start by mixing two cups of boiling water with two tablespoons of instant coffee (you can also use brewed coffee if you prefer).
Then, add one cup of cold water, brown sugar, and two teaspoons of unflavored gelatin. Stir everything together and pour it into a cup before refrigerating it for a few hours. Once it’s set, you can top it with whipped cream, caramel syrup, or whatever you like.
Many people in the TikTok comments shared that they enjoyed Japanese coffee jelly when they were in Japan, while others mentioned the texture wasn’t for them.
But if you love Jello and coffee, Parade suggests that this is definitely something you should try!
